PETALING JAYA (June 12): Five members of Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) were detained yesterday for attempting to stop several Pahang state departments from evicting roadside vendors and demolishing their stalls Kea farm in Cameron Highlands.
When contacted, PSM Cameron Highlands secretary Suresh Kumar told fz.com that the PSM members were arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties.
They were arrested at 3pm yesterday and released at 1.30am this morning.
Suresh said PSM members had gathered at the area since yesterday morning to stop officers from several Pahang state departments, including the Cameron Highlands district office and the Pahang Land and Mines Department, from evicting traders in the area.
Some of the PSM members were also injured in the fracas that ensued with the state enforcement officers, he added.
PSM immediately lodged several police reports on the harassment by the enforcement officers.
The eviction due to upcoming development in the area.
Suresh alleged the authorities were acting on behalf of developer Signature Landmark Property Sdn Bhd.
He said the eviction was due to the slated development of a commercial area Aranda Nova on the nearby land.
"The traders have licences to operate in the area and some of the vendors have been conducting their business there for the past 20 years,” he said.
Aranda Nova is a mixed development project consisting of a hotel, serviced apartments and commercial units on a 5.54-acre leasehold piece of land. Its developer is Signature Landmark Property Sdn Bhd.
When contacted, an officer from the Cameron Highlands district and land office who declined to be revealed said the issue was a longstanding one.
“We had served the vendors many notices to evict the area and we also had discussions with them,” he said, adding the notices were served since 2010.
He said the authorities had already provided them a new place to be relocated, which is located nearer to Brinchang town.
According to previous media reports, the traders were not satisfied with the new area as there is a lack of parking spots and is located by a road bend.
Suresh said some traders are willing to be relocated, provided the facilities at the new area are better than the present location.
“But there is another group who do not want to move, because they say they will not affect the development project,” he added.
He said about seven traders will meet Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob this Friday to seek a resolution.

Benarkah kekalahan Manogaran DAP di Parlimen P078 Cameron disebabkan oleh saya & PSM Cameron?

Baru-baru ini, saya terkejut apabila mendengar tuduhan bahawa Calon DAP utk Parlimen Cameron, Manogaran, kalah sebanyak 462 undi terhadap Palanivel kerana saya & PSM Cameron. Saya sedih apabila dengar tuduhan begini dibuat oleh beberapa penyokong & ahli PSM sendiri tanpa sebarang bukti.

Di antara tuduhan tersebut ialah:
1. Saya telah minta ahli & penyokong PSM Cameron undi Palanivel (BN).
2. Saya telah minta ahli & penyokong PSM Cameron buat undi rosak.
3. Saya tidak ikhlas tolong Manogaran DAP dlm kempen PRU13.
4. PSM Cameron telah sokong Calon BEBAS di DUN Tanah Rata (Dr Cheam May Choo) menyebabkan kekalahan Manogaran DAP di Parlimen Cameron.
4. Saya dgn sengaja telah minta ahli PSM Cameron utk menjadi PACA utk Dr.Jeyakumar (PSM) di Sg Siput. Ini menyebabkan Manogaran DAP kekurangan sukarelawan.

1. Saya tidak PERNAH minta sesiapa pun utk undi Palanivel (BN) atau jadikan undi rosak. Sebenarnya, undi rosak dlm PRU13 telah berkurang kpd 3.9% dari 7.2% pd PRU12.
2. PSM Cameron telah mula kempen utk Manogaran DAP sejak 28/4/13 kerana permintaan rakyat Cameron & juga dr luar. Sebelum 28/4/13, PSM Cameron dlm dilemma kerana tidak setuju dgn DAP yg tidak mahu beri laluan kpd PSM Cameron 1 lawan 1 dgn Palanivel. Tetapi PSM Cameron telah berubah pendiriannya kerana hormat kpd pendapat rakyat yg mahu kami tolong Manogaran DAP utk tumbang BN.
3. PSM Cameron telah edar lebih 4000 risalah Manogaran DAP di DUN Tanah Rata & Jelai.
4. Sepanjang kempen PRU13, saya telah berucap dlm 3 ceramah DAP di Cameron; Sg Koyan, Kg OA Lembah Bertam & Kg Raja.
5. Saya telah bersama penyokong DAP pada hari undi 5/5/13 di 3 tempat di Cameron; SMK Ringlet, SMK Sultan Ahmad Shah & SJKC Kuala Terla. Saya hanya berlepas ke Sg Siput pukul 1pm bersama komrad Siva.
8. PSM Cameron mengamalkan sistem demokrasi dlm semua mesyuaratnya. Semua ahli dibenarkan bersuara & keputusan diambil berdasarkan pendapat majoriti.

Sekian.

PSM confident of beating Palanivel in Cameron Highlands - The Malay Mail

AN UNDERDOG battle of David vs Goliath proportions is on the cards.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) wants to take on MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel in the parliamentary seat of Cameron Highlands.

PSM Cameron Highlands secretary Suresh Kumar has been tipped as the party's candidate for the seat.

He feels his service in the constituency will make an impact.

“Palanivel’s tactics in Cameron Highlands are not attracting the voters’ attention. We have held events where people would flock to even without the advantages of free transportation, free food or cash handouts,” said Suresh.

Other PSM officials were equally confident in Suresh’s service record.

“Suresh is no stranger in Cameron Highlands. He was born there and has been serving and assisting the people there for 10 years now. He runs the PSM Cameron Highlands service centre which has solved over 300 cases for the people,” said PSM Cameron Highlands election committee chairman Simon Rajendran.

“With a record like that, we feel Suresh is the best candidate to stand against Palanivel."

However, a stumbling block could come from DAP, which has stated its intention to run for the same seat.

Rajendran said PSM and Pakatan Rakyat shared a common enemy.

“Whatever the outcome, PSM Cameron Highlands has the same objective as Pakatan Rakyat, that is to defeat Barisan Nasional here. We hope DAP will give us the chance to contest this seat,” he said.

In 2008, MIC vice-president S. K. Devamany defeated DAP's J. Apalasamy with a 3,117-vote majority.

PSM has promised to work with Pakatan Rakyat to avoid three-cornered fights but meetings to smooth out the process are in progress, with PSM secretary-general S. Arutchelvan meeting with Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday for negotiations.

  8. menyokong perjuangan Orang Asal Cameron melalui Jaringan Tanah & Wilayah Adat Cameron Highlands (JARICH)

PSM: Why charge hillslope residents? - FZ.com

PSM S. Arutchelvan (R) is baffled why the AG interferes in a private case against land development.
KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and residents of the Green Cow area in Cameron Highlands are baffled over the contradictory stands taken by the authorities on land development works on the hillslope.
PSM Cameron Highlands branch secretary B Suresh Kumar said that although the residents had obtained a court injunction to stop the developer from carrying out soil movement works in the area, the attorney-general (AG) remains intent on pursuing criminal charges against three of them.

"The Kuantan High Court has delivered us justice," he told a press conference at the PSM headquarters today. "But the AG, district land office and police have continued to stand against us."

The Green Cow residents lodged a police report against LTT Development in September 2011 over fears that their homes and lives were in danger following bulldozing works by the developer to carry out a commercial shop lot project.

In May this year, the residents set up camp in the developer's area, prompting the developer to obtain an ex parte injunction to stop them from trespassing.

Three months ago, two Green Cow residents were charged by the authorities at the Cameron Highlands Magistrate's Court for obstructing the developer's lorries. Their case will be heard on Jan 29 next year.

On Dec 11, the Kuantan High Court set aside LTT Development's ex parte and inter parte injunctions to stop the residents from trespassing on the land.

The court also awarded an injunction to Green Cow residents to stop LTT Development from carrying out soil movement works near their homes.

This is the second court victory for the residents with the first being on July 30, when the Cameron Highlands Magistrate's Court cleared Suresh and two other residents from charges of wrongful restraint.

The AG however appealed the case in the Termerloh High Court in August. The appeal will be heard on Feb 22 next year.

PSM secretary-general S. Arutchelvan, who was also present at today's press conference, questioned why the AG is interfering in a case that could easily be pursued by a private company.

"These people are fighting to save their lives and their homes," he said. "This isn't a blind fight for the environment but started when a rock fall occurred in the area."

According to Arutchelvan, even the district land office is uncooperative in its insistence that all documents related to the development are confidential.

"The developers have even sent gangsters who pointed guns at the resident but the police will only conduct investigations if we have the make and model of the guns," he said.

PSM and the Green Cow residents are also wondering if MIC President Datuk G Palanivel has any intention of honouring his promise to provide them alternate land for relocation.

"Palanivel visited the area in July and promised to give the Green Cow residents another piece of land," Suresh claimed.

"His aide even took some of the residents to the allocated land which is a forest area. That was the last we heard from him."

Suresh said that they have sent two letters to Palanivel but received no response.

Arutchelvan meanwhile claimed that Palanivel had made that promise because he knew that the land area was unsafe.

When asked if Cameron Highlands MP Datuk K Devamany was playing a role in the issue, Arutchelvan replied that Devamany had written a letter to Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaacob, seeking a resolution but there had been no feedback.

In July, Palanivel issued a statement saying that the woes of the Green Cow residents had been resolved as Adnan had agreed to allocate a piece of land for each of the affected families to rebuild their homes.
