Police double standard rapped over arrests at MB’s office Friday, 13 July 2012 08:51
PAS has lashed out at the police’s arrest of 31 participants who took part in the "Occupy MB's Office" protest at the Pahang Menteri Besar's Office in Kuantan two days ago.
“They should be heard, not arrested,” said PAS Supporters Congress chief N Balasubramaniam.
Led by Cameron Highlands's Parti Sosialis Malaysia chief B Suresh Kumar, the protestors had gathered at the MB’s office to press for a meeting date with MB Adnan Yaakob over land issues.
The issue has affected their livelihood and attempts to seek aid from the Cameron Highlands district office fell on deaf ears despite sending 17 letters.
13 men, 12 women and six children were arrested and later released on bail yesterday. The had said they would only leave after getting an appointment with Adnan.
Bala said the protestors were villagers with problems that had been long overdue and neglected by the state government.
“They were not there for chaos, they just wanted to meet the Menteri Besar,” he said.
He also questioned the speed in which the police had acted.
“In most crimes, police did not act in such manner.
“If the MB is not available, just give them another date of appointment. There is no need to arrest them,” he said.
